Within the world of legal services we are seeing a growing increase in the use of "Alternative Fee Arrangements" (or AFAs). Clients are demanding their lawyers share risk by working on a budgetary or fixed fee basis. Discussions with law firms, however, have indicated that lawyers do not currently have the tools or procedures they need to work confidently within this new financial structure.
Accordingly, we recently distributed a survey to Dutch lawyers to attempt to quantify the difficulties currently being experienced during the lifecycle of their case management. We have gone on to use this information to identify key issues, and the tools available to help. The ensuing whitepaper is the culmination of this investigation.
